Don’t Feel Guilty about Design
Meetings exist to solve problems and move forward. Those two elements combine to create value. If your meetings are not generating value, then they are reducing it. And right now, you don’t have time to reduce value. Want more? Check out my book Code Your Way Up – available as an eBook or Paperback on Amazon (CAN and US). I’m also the co-host of the Remotely Prepared podcast.

You can build it in 2 Minutes
Greg Thomas
Yes, with any AI tool, you can build a product in 2 minutes. But what is your ship rate? What is your customer acquisition rate? Even better, what is the customer referral rate? Next, how does it integrate into your existing platform, infrastructure, and workload? Is it still 2 minutes? I’m still wary when a developer says, “I’ll be done in 2 minutes”, because it never is. Nothing takes 2 minutes; pieces of things take 2 minutes, but the entire picture together, that takes longer than 2 minutes. You can build it in 2 minutes, but it takes longer to …

Take that Thinking Time
Greg Thomas
If you don’t take the time to think through a problem, to analyze what’s in front of you, to figure out your next steps. No one will. There is a time to do, and a time to think. When you know all the elements of the problem, that is definitely the time to do, but when you don’t – that’s the time to think. You can be quiet. You can be reserved. You can go into a cave. You can shut everything out. There is no harm in thinking through a problem and not responding immediately. That is where our …

Don’t Feel Guilty about Design
In anything, good design is what sets good work apart from itself. Did you take the time to learn the underlying structure? Did you look at the technology and libraries that were being used? Did you think about the usage scenarios that would be applied by your team? Did you run through multiple problems in your head to resolve them? In the early stages, we complain about design taking too long; it’s not a sexy billable either, but when the product ships, when it runs without falling over. Yeah, that’s good design, so make sure you give it the focus …

Now I understand High School
I was never a math or science major in school, and strongly disliked having to show my work. I wanted to figure out the answer in any way I could, and just give out the answer and get the full marks. Now with AI, I’m seeing code and ticket changes that go from a blank class file to a fully fleshed out solution – that might work well – but hasn’t been removed. It’s a good reminder for me as I use AI, that yes, it’s important to keep showing my work. The differentiator won’t be the answer; we all …

The AI Cut and Paste Dilemma
When a ticket goes from no content to 1000 lines of content, here is where my mind immediately goes now. I use AI to help me troubleshoot and track down problems – no one knows it all – and that goes for you to AI! After being burned a few times, with AI usage, I have found myself now in an instant doubting mood when I see long pieces of content come my way, where I now have to remind myself – someone might have put a lot of effort into this and I should give it the time it …
