If you’re happy with your reach, you don’t need to do anything. If you want to increase your reach, you’re going to need to do something, it won’t come to you. It won’t “just happen”. Make a plan, buy the tools you need to help you, and ask people for help. But know that if  you want to extend your reach, it starts with you, and no one else.

Good customer service fixes your issue now and sets you up for success so it doesn’t happen again. The same is true for… Good code. Good project management. Good video games. Good careers. Good opportunities. If you only fix the now and not the tomorrow, the now is destined to happen again. If you push the issue till tomorrow, the issue will keep happening.

Start – anything, something, not big, or small, but start. Repeat – do what you did yesterday, but do it again, don’t modify it, don’t increase it, don’t push yourself further. Keep Doing it – the hardest one – everyone can start Start and Repeat for a bit, but the “Keeping Doing it”, is the hardest part – how long can you keep doing it?  What’s the record? Increase – Whatever your “Keep Doing it”…

Where you currently find yourself, is where you might not want to be. Job. Career. Task. Role. Wherever you find yourself is where you are – you can’t change that. You can change where you are headed, what you want to accomplish, and where you want to go. What that means is where you find yourself today, is not where you are going to end up, unless you stay resolved to remain there.

Careers are exactly like video games. You start off not knowing what to do so you plod along and stuff “happens”. Then you figure out you want to get better at something, perhaps even “specialize”. So you get good at that thing, invest in yourself, get the tools and you become better at what you do. Then like anything, you get to the point where you need to learn the tips and tricks and master…
